Miss Universe 2011 was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil today. There are 89 contestants who parcticipated in this year’s pageant. Miss Angola, Leila Lopes won the Miss Universe title and was crowned by Miss Universe 2010, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.

Other winners are as follows:

• 1st Runner-Up: Olesya Stefanko, Ukraine
• 2nd Runner-Up: Priscila Machado, Brazil
• 3rd Runner-Up: Shamcey Supsup, Philippines
• 4th Runner-Up: Zilin Luo, China

Congratulations to Shamcey Supsop for getting the 3rd Runner-Up position. We, Filipinos should be proud of her. This means that Pinays are really beautiful and smart.

Canada’s newest celebrity, Maria Aragon appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” last Tuesday. Maria Aragon performed Born This Way by Lady Gaga, the song that gives her instant fame with 11 million views in YouTube (watch Maria Aragon’s cover). Ellen asked her why she chose to cover that song and Maria said, “Because of the meaning of the song. It’s a really great meaning. It’s about just being yourself because God may you who you are and you’re no different than anybody else.” Lady Gaga invited Maria on her Toronto concert. I think she will become the next Charice Pempengco, can’t wait to see her in Oprah.

Last night, I watched American Idol Season 10 premiere with new set of judges. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez replaced Kara DioGardi, Ellen DeGeneres and the creator or American Idol, Simon Cowell. Host Ryan Seacrest remains as well Randy Jackson as judge. I noticed that AI is different now, without Simon to critic the contestants and Ellen to make fun of them. But I like Tyler’s shouting (like what he did in the song I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing ^_^ ) and JLo’s difficult saying “no” to contestants.
