Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Basketball

Men’s Basketball is my favorite event in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The venue of the Olympic basketball preliminaries and finals is Beijing Olympic Basketball Gymnasium.

Twelve teams are split into 2 preliminary round groups of 6 teams each. The top 4 teams from both groups qualify for the knockout stage. Teams who participate on this event are Angola, USA, Argentina, Iran, Russia, Lithuania, Croatia, Greece, Germany, Australi, Spain and China.

USA versus Argentina, Spain versus Lithuania are competing for the semi-finals and who will win between them will meet on the gold medal game

Olympic Weightlifter Breaks Arm

weightlifter breaks arm Janos Baranyai from Hungary met a weightlifting accident at Beijing Olympics. Baranyai was trying to lift 148kg in his third turn in the men’s 77kg division when his right elbow was dislocated. He was no longer able to support the weight of the barbell and the right forearm bent backward. The 24 year old Hungarian was shocked and cried when he fell to the floor. Read the full story here.

Djokovic and Sharapova wins Australian Open

20 years old Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open men’s single last Sunday against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He became the Serbia’s first Grand Slam singles champion after his four-set win over frenchman Tsonga at Melbourne Park. Tsonga beat Federer while Djokovic beat Nadal in semi-finals. In women’s single, Maria Sharapova beat Ana Ivanovic in their two-set match. Sharapova has won three Grand Slam singles titles, first in Wimbledon (2004), second in U.S. Open (2006) and third is the Australian Open (2008).
